The Charlotte Chorale will perform ‘Music from Around the World’ at 7:30 p.m. on April 4 at the Center for Performing Arts in Punta Gorda. This heritage of music concert under Artistic Director, R. Bruce MacGregor, will feature music from many lands: the British Isles, Germany, Russia, Poland, Africa, Spain, Italy and the United States. Listeners will enjoy both light and serious selections including folk music, show tunes, famous movie music, novelty numbers, as well as a sing-a-long. The Chorale will be accompanied by Angela Navarro.
Artistic Director, R. Bruce MacGregor stated, “Our Chorale will open with music associated with ‘homelands’ such as Sibelius’ ‘This is My Song’ from ‘Finlandia;’ several works from the British Isles: the Scottish folk tune, ‘Loch Lomond’ the Irish folk song, ‘Down by the Sally Garden;’ and the Czecho-Slovak folksong, ‘Waters Ripple and Flow.’ The second segment will continue the international theme with ‘faith through song’ selections. The last portion of the concert will open with a hilarious travesty of Rigoletto by Verdi sung by the men of the Chorale. Then the Chorale will take the audience through a broad range of moods with selections such as ‘When You Believe,’ ‘Dry Your Tears, Africa,’ ‘Time to Say Goodbye,’ ‘The Impossible Dream’ and a humorous imitation of the sounds of the ‘William Tell Overture.’ The audience will also enjoy singing along to ‘Edelweiss’ from ‘The Sound of Music.’
Concert tickets are $20 and may be purchased from the Center for Performing Arts box office (941-505-7469) or from any Chorale member. For other Chorale information call 204-0033.
